Spacoius seating, fantastic coffee and delicious food
The Commons is an old member of the Colombo coffee scene and is located in one of the fanciest areas in town, Flower Road. It is another member of the Harpos Pizza chain which gets us thinking, why haven’t they introduced a customer loyalty membership already! as it can be used across their other restaurants such as The Bayleaf. From the outside it may look ordinary but you’ll change your decision once you enter. It has enough and more seating other than the general area including a separate couch area which is suitable for groups and an outdoor section which can be useful, specially if you are on a date. You might have to reserve a table early if you want to grab one from the couch area.
As many coffee shops in Colombo, it is a self service restaurant. The menu has a bit of everything. Let it be sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and the unforgettable burgers. They also have a breakfast menu which is nice if you want to grab something new rather than sticking with the usual items.
Food and Drinks

Gave an attempt at one of their milkshakes for a start. The order was delivered fast which is always a good thing. The vanilla was heavenly and it was a struggle to not finish the entire glass before food arrived at the table. All of their drinks are below half a K which is perfect. The Commons also serve some nice hot and cold coffees, fresh juices and soft drinks. If you do not feel like having something heavy, you can always try a piece of their magnificent cakes and treats.
Moving on to the mains, it’s gonna be a tough choice as there are so many options to choose from and you have only one appetite. The wraps and the sandwiches are not in massive portions but it is definitely filling. Also tried the South West Bacon (Chi) burger and the regular chicken burger. They were the right size and the meat was very tender. They come with a fare portion of potato fries which is an essential when it comes to burgers.

All in all, they cannot disappoint you no matter what time of the day it is. The Commons is a definite go to coffee house for anyone and everyone. One minor detail to look out for though is the pricing as the menu does not have nett prices, which might be useful for many. There are a few parking spots out front but worst case you should be able to park along Flower Road given that the police allows you to.
